Flourish with The Twelve Days of Health

12/9/2024

Picture
During the holiday season, we often reminisce about the joy of singing familiar Christmas carols. At Flourish, we’re excited to offer a festive twist with our "12 Days of Health" countdown, designed to inspire and motivate you as you begin your wellness journey in the new year.

Follow us on
Facebook and Instagram for daily tips and reminders to encourage healthy choices. To get you started, we’re sharing them right here—get ready to embrace a healthier, happier you this year!

Day 1: Immune Boost Basics

Staying healthy during flu season requires a combination of strengthening your immune system and practicing good hygiene. Start by prioritizing hand hygiene, washing your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. When soap isn’t available, use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol, and avoid touching your face, especially your eyes, nose, and mouth. Staying hydrated is also essential for overall health, so drink plenty of water and incorporate herbal teas like ginger or chamomile for their soothing and immune-boosting properties.
Getting adequate sleep is another critical factor, as your body needs 7–9 hours of quality rest each night to recover and repair. Pair good sleep with regular exercise, such as walking, yoga, or strength training, to improve circulation and strengthen your immune response. Managing stress is equally important, as high stress levels can weaken your immunity. Relaxation techniques like meditation and deep breathing can help keep stress in check.

Incorporating immune-boosting
foods into your diet is a natural way to support your health. Foods rich in vitamin C, such as oranges, grapefruits, bell peppers, and strawberries, are excellent choices, along with zinc-rich options like pumpkin seeds, chickpeas, and nuts. Probiotic-rich foods such as yogurt with live cultures, kefir, and fermented vegetables like sauerkraut and kimchi can enhance gut health, which is closely linked to immune function. Antioxidant-packed foods like berries, spinach, and sweet potatoes, along with anti-inflammatory choices like turmeric, ginger, and fatty fish, offer additional protection.

Recommended supplements (for the entire family) include:
  • Orthomune – This can be taken preventatively or for an acute illness. Take as directed on the bottle for prevention or take a double dose every 4 hours during an acute illness.
  • Cytoimmune – This can be taken preventatively or for an acute illness. Take as directed on the bottle. This can also be used preventatively during travel. Cytoimmune is best for teens and adults.
  • ViRadChem Binder – This can be taken preventatively or for an acute illness. Take 1 capsule once daily for prevention or 2 capsules twice daily for an active infection. Kids younger than age 10 should take a half dose.

Day 2: Know Your Numbers

Did you know there are more medical testing options than just blood work and lab results? At  Flourish Medical + Wellness we take a holistic approach to medicine. Therefore, we offer more testing options than the typical blood work labs. What this means for you is that we can use clinical results to determine the cause of physical symptoms you may be experiencing. These deeper-dive options will help us see the full picture of your health and create a personalized treatment plan. And when we review your test results, we consider optimal vs. “normal” ranges. Normal is based on 95% of people who are tested. This includes healthy and SICK people. We don’t compare you to other sick people here at Flourish. We want you to be optimal – healthy!  Learn more from this helpful video. Once you’ve had your second visit with us you will understand why Flourish is different than any medical provider you’ve seen in the past.

Day 3: Hydration Tips

Staying hydrated is just as important in the winter as it is during warmer months, even though you may feel less thirsty in colder weather. Proper hydration supports digestion, circulation, and immune function, and it’s especially vital during flu season to help your body stay resilient.

Along with water, maintaining your electrolyte balance is essential, as electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium help regulate fluid levels, muscle function, and energy. You can boost electrolyte intake naturally by adding foods like bananas, citrus fruits, leafy greens, and seeds to your diet or by sipping on electrolyte-rich drinks, such as coconut water or our recommended electrolyte powder
LMNT. To make water more appealing, try infusing it with seasonal fruits and herbs—slices of oranges, apples, or pears combined with a sprig of rosemary, or a cinnamon stick add a delicious, wintery twist.

Warm beverages like herbal teas or hot water with lemon and honey can also help you stay hydrated while offering comfort on chilly days. By prioritizing hydration and electrolytes, you’ll give your body the support it needs to thrive during the colder months.

Day 4: Female Hormones in Harmony

We need to bring the topic of peri/menopause front and center! It’s no longer just something women “need to live with.” Women on average are healthier than men during the first two-thirds of their lifespan. The last one-third (after menopause) this changes and men on average are healthier than women.
"... Jackie looked at me and my symptoms... She set treatment up and I remember how good I felt after I was treated... Biote Pellets have done so many GREAT things for me.  #1 biggest improvement is my mental health has never been better,  #2 energy levels are amazing, #3 memory hasn’t been this good in years. And my thyroid was low, too so... those issues are improving now."     - Paula A.

Day 5: Family First Wellness

Keeping the whole family healthy starts with creating routines that prioritize wellness for everyone. Encourage regular handwashing, especially before meals and after coming home from school, work, or outings, to minimize the spread of germs. Focus on balanced, nutrient-dense meals rich in fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins to support immune health, and make staying hydrated a family habit by keeping water bottles accessible for everyone.

Adequate sleep is vital for all ages, so establish consistent bedtime routines that allow enough rest for both children and adults. Stay active together by incorporating family walks, bike rides, or indoor activities like fitness programs, which not only promote physical health but also strengthen your bond. Manage stress as a family by setting aside time for relaxation, whether through mindfulness practices, reading, or simply enjoying quality time together. By making these habits a part of your daily life, you can help ensure your family stays healthy and resilient throughout the year.

Here are some recommended supplements to have on hand:
  • Bioray Immune – Daily immune support and boost for kids
  • ViVi – This is a natural anti-viral that can be used as needed for viral infections for kids or adults. For active infections, use ViVi 2-3 times daily until symptom resolution.
  • Bactrex – This is a natural anti-bacterial that can be used as needed when bacterial infections arise for kids or adults. For active infections, use Bactrex twice daily until symptoms have resolved.

Day 6: Get to Know Your Health Practitioners

The team at Flourish Medical + Wellness is a dedicated group of professionals specializing in holistic and integrative care. Led by founder Jackie Tewes, MSN, APRN, CNP, and co-owner Tad Tewes, MPAS, PA-C, the staff includes experienced nurse practitioners, physician assistant, registered nurses, and patient services representatives. They emphasize preventive health, wellness, hormone therapy, and personalized care, supporting patients through various life stages. The team’s diverse expertise ensures comprehensive support for physical and emotional well-being. For more details, visit our team page. Learn more about becoming a Flourish patient.

Day 7: Weight Loss Ideas

Sustainable weight loss is best approached with a balanced and individualized strategy that considers factors like nutrition, exercise, mental well-being, and long-term habits to promote lasting results and a healthier lifestyle. Restoring optimal hormone levels, testosterone, estradiol, and thyroid, is an integral part of a successful weight loss plan. This makes weight loss more attainable as well as sustainable! High toxin load also contributes to weight gain and weight loss resistance as toxins are fat soluble. Therefore, detoxification may be necessary to jumpstart weight loss, or to push beyond a weight loss plateau.

Sustained weight loss is best achieved by optimizing hormones and thyroid, removing excess toxins, and implementing effective diet and exercise plans.  We’re here to help. We offer toxin testing and the InBody scan for a deeper understanding of your personal weight loss needs. Schedule an initial consultation and learn more on our YouTube Channel.
If you are struggling with weight gain you can't lose, perimenopause, menopause and/or weight gain PLEASE do yourself a favor and see Jackie. Traditional and Western medicine just couldn't seem to help. It's worth your investment."
- Jennifer E.

Day 8: What is your menopause IQ?

Have you heard (or thought) of these myths regarding menopause?
Myth #1: Menopause Means the End of Your Sex Life
Myth #2: Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is the Only Treatment
Myth #3: Menopause Only Affects Women's Reproductive Systems
Myth #4: Menopause is the Same for Every Woman

Do NOT believe them! Perimenopause and menopause are natural phases in a woman's life that can be accompanied by a variety of symptoms. By understanding these changes and
dispelling common myths and misconceptions, women can take control of their health and well-being during this transitional period. You do not have to suffer with these symptoms. At Flourish we recommend bioidentical/iso-molecular HRT only. We offer different modalities – patches, creams, and pellets. Speak with your provider regarding which is best for you. You don’t have to suffer in silence!

We offer greater insight in this
blog post and webinar.

Day 9: Give the Gift of Health

Wellness gifts are a thoughtful way to support health and relaxation during the holiday season. Consider items like aromatherapy diffusers with calming essential oils, cozy weighted blankets, or self-care kits with bath salts, and skincare essentials. Fitness-related gifts such as yoga mats, resistance bands, or virtual class memberships are great for staying active. For stress relief, journals, guided meditation apps, or subscription boxes for herbal teas or healthy snacks make excellent options. Personalized wellness items, like a gift certificate for a massage or Flourish care, add a meaningful touch.

This month we are offering a
Gift Card Special at our clinic.
Call or stop in to purchase a $100 gift card and receive a $20 bonus for yourself!

Day 10: Man-up Your Hormones

The normal aging process is starting at an even younger age for men due to toxins in our products, high stress levels, hormone-infused foods, and synthetic medications. Men experience a gradual reduction in testosterone levels over time, which leads to unwanted symptoms. The medical term for this is andropause.

Andropause (aka Manopause) starts somewhere in the mid to upper 30s for most men. A gradual decline happens from then on. Men can see body composition changes, mood changes, lower motivation, and changes in sexual function just to name a few. We strongly
do not recommend synthetic testosterone injections. These can come along with significant risks and side effects. You do not have to suffer with these symptoms. At Flourish we recommend bioidentical/iso-molecular HRT only. We offer different modalities – gels, creams, and pellets. Speak with your provider regarding which is best for you.

Our patients
share their story and invite you to seek the care you deserve.

Day 11: Foundational Health

At Flourish, our focus is foundational health! We believe God created the body in a remarkable way that can heal and function at a high level if there is a healthy foundation present. This includes healthy lifestyle habits, removing things (toxins) that may be disrupting the foundation, and refilling tanks that may be empty. Resetting and restoring the foundation allows the body to function as God designed!

You will find daily, weekly, and monthly recommendations in this helpful guide.

Day 12: Set your Wellness Intentions

To set achievable wellness resolutions for the new year, start by focusing on small, measurable goals. We encourage you to choose one or two areas to improve, such as increasing daily water intake, getting more sleep, or practicing mindfulness for a few minutes each day. Be sure to set realistic timelines and track your progress to stay motivated. Remember the importance of balance—incorporating exercise into daily routines but also prioritizing mental health with self-care practices. Remember, consistency is key, and progress is often about small, sustainable changes over time. We offer many helpful free resources on our website.

Breast Cancer: 8 Risk Factors You Can Control

10/10/2024

four women interlocking arms
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s an annual campaign to raise awareness of the impact of breast cancer. At Flourish, it’s our opportunity to make you aware of the breast cancer rates, risk factors, prevention steps, early detection methods, and to educate you on the risks for screening. Let’s begin with the current data on the impact of breast cancer in America.

Breast Cancer Facts

  • Breast cancer is in second place as the cause of cancer-related deaths and increasing at a rate of 0.5% diagnosis per year.
  • New cases each year are at 129.7 per 100,000 women (as of 2019). That is triple the number of next leading new cancer cases.
  • In 2016, 4-6% of women diagnosed were under 45 years of age. In 2020 that number nearly doubled to 11% of cases being women under age 45.
  • Good news… 93% of patients experience a 5-year or greater survival rate when detected early.

Early Detection and Screening Guidelines

The current methods of early detection and breast cancer screening are flawed. Some detection methods are not effective and cause unnecessary fear and stress. And although there are risks with obtaining mammograms at a young age, for young women, early detection is needed. We are seeing cancer rates rise in younger age groups. While 3D offers a clearer picture, is more accurate, and the new standard for screening – the cost is not always covered by medical insurance plans and the levels of radiation are much higher. The 2D traditional method is known for high rates of false positives and false negatives. It also causes radiation exposure, thus, making it ineffective screening method. Another option is thermography. This method uses an infrared camera to detect heat and blood flow. Thermography is free from health risks, is best for dense breast tissue cancer detection, and for those under 50 years of age. The cost for the screening is around $150-200 dollars.

Unfortunately, it can take years for screening recommendations to change. We are seeing a rise in breast cancer rates in young women, but screening recommendations are not reflecting that. Breast self-exams and thermography may be the best options.

Risk Factors You Cannot Control

  • Genetic Mutations: Individuals who carry a mutation in either the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene have a condition called Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer (HBOC) syndrome, which is associated with an 87 percent risk of developing breast cancer by age 70.
  • Having Dense Breasts: Dense breasts have more connective tissue than fatty tissue which can sometimes make it hard to see tumors on a mammogram.
  • Family History of Breast or Ovarian Cancer: A woman’s risk for breast cancer is higher if she has a mother, sister, or daughter, or multiple family members on either her mother’s or father’s side of the family who have had breast or ovarian cancer.
  • Previous treatment using radiation therapy: Women who had radiation therapy to the chest or breasts, for instance treatment of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, before age 30 have a higher risk of getting breast cancer later in life.
  • Exposure to the drug Diethylstilbestrol (DES): DES was given to some pregnant women in the United States between 1940 and 1971 to prevent miscarriage. Women who took DES, or whose mothers took DES while pregnant with them, have a higher risk of getting breast cancer.

8 Risk Factors You Can Control

  1. Not being physically active.
  2. Being overweight or having obesity after menopause.
  3. Taking hormones: Synthetic hormone replacement therapy taken during menopause can raise risk for breast cancer when taken for more than five years. Certain oral contraceptives (birth control pills) also have been found to raise breast cancer risk.
  4. Reproductive history: Having the first pregnancy after age 30, not breastfeeding, and never having a full-term pregnancy, can raise breast cancer risk.
  5. Drinking alcohol
  6. Smoking
  7. Being exposed to chemicals and toxins that can cause cancer.
  8. Change in hormones due to night shift working.

Prevention Steps

  • Exercise
  • Do not smoke
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Consume alcohol in moderation
  • Avoid a night shift work schedule
  • Avoid BPA (toxin) found in plastics, make-up, laundry detergent, sunscreen, and receipts.
  • Avoid synthetic hormones and oral contraceptives
  • Seek bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) vs. synthetic treatments
There is not a perfect way to detect breast cancer early without increasing risk; that’s why prevention is so important. We suggest regular exercise, eating organic foods, avoid and reduce toxins, conduct self-exams, and know your body. Listen to your intuition, and if you think something is wrong – visit your doctor.” – Jackie Tewes

Healthy Aging Tips for All Generations

8/28/2024

four adults smiling and eating
September is Healthy Aging Month. What comes to mind when we say, "healthy aging"? Do you assume we are referring to elderly people? The truth is that we are ALL aging - and at the exact same rate! We each have the same 365 days in a year and 24 hours in a day. However, what we do with that time will affect how long we remain healthy. So, let's look at some helpful guidance for each stage of aging.

Infants and Toddlers

Healthy aging includes more than just wellness - it includes safety and environment. Your infant and toddler are susceptible to home hazards and health risks that older children are not necessarily exposed to. Some strategies for keeping your baby healthy include frequent hand washing, monitoring hydration, dressing them appropriately for the weather, and avoiding household toxins. One way to manage exposure is to remove footwear in the house to avoid tracking dirt, toxins, and pollution in from outside. And using non-toxic cleansers on the floor and dishwasher to avoid ingesting toxic fumes.

Young Children

Independent and active! Young children get into everything their curious hands can reach. Home safety is as important as hygiene. Check your home for hazards like stairs, water zones like pet bowls, and small toy choking risks. Let's listen to the advice of medical and dental professionals for preventative measures and childhood wellness recommendations. Steps like brushing their teeth, not overusing humidifiers, frequent hand-washing, and covering coughs are daily essentials in the well-being of your young child.

Teenagers

Essentials for the healthy teenager include eating right, staying active, and getting enough sleep. Easier to say than to do.... or enforce. But planning ahead and being consistent might guide your teen toward making healthy choices naturally. Offering healthy food options at home, taking family hikes, spending time unplugged in nature, and enjoying family meals together will help to create a lifestyle of wellness. Mental and emotional health play an important role in the aging process for tweens and teens. Keeping their emotional needs on your radar and being aware of drastic changes in mood is essential. Reach out to a medical professional as a resource. Supporting and encouraging your teen to become involved in sports and physical activity and visiting your dentist and doctor regularly are two great steps toward healthy aging, too.

20-Somethings

Oh so wise and yet, so young - twenty-year olds feel free and youthful. But, now is the ideal time to adopt good habits that will lead to healthy aging. Establish healthy sleep
habits now for physical and mental well-being. Learn to cook healthy meals at home, maintain an active lifestyle, and protect your skin with SPF every day! These habits are a great way to set the wellness course. In your twenties, you should get a physical exam every year and make your health a priority. Knowing your limitations on social activities and reducing stressful situations are needed for all age groups, but at 20-something your energy seems boundless, so you may need a reminder to practice moderation.

Mid 30s-40s

Your mid-thirties can be a milestone for many reasons. You might be enjoying career advancement and a larger social circle. Perhaps you've established an active lifestyle and are making better eating choices. While these things are essential for healthy living, your body is going to age at a different rate and make some major shifts in the coming years. Awareness and strategy will help you stay the course.

Your diet should include more high-fiber foods as they will give you fewer years of biologic aging. And bone density is formed in our younger years, so by age 30 new bone formation is completed. We recommend annual wellness visits and labs to check your vitamin D level. Vitamin D turns into calcium in the body. The exercise routine you currently enjoy may need to change. Muscle mass decreases 3-8% per decade after age 30, so you should be adding strength training to your routine three times per week to boost your metabolism, burn fat, and remain lean. Male and female hormonal changes can begin as early as age 25, but now is when you need to pay extra attention. Many symptoms and discomforts could be a sign of increased risk for disease. Schedule a consultation with us and learn more about recommended hormone treatments and live the healthy full life God intended for you.

50+

Degenerative conditions can start earlier in life, but typically 50 is the age when we see and feel dramatic changes in our body. It serves as a reminder of the importance of wellness exams for early detection and symptom diagnosis; and reinforces the value of maintaining an active lifestyle. This generation (Baby Boomers) has more 55+ active living communities available to them than any elderly generation in the past. Great resources are available to them, and the options are vast. We invite you to learn more about osteoporosis and its effects on aging.

Two Important Factors on Aging

(1) Prevention
There is a reason why many health and medical insurance plans include free annual screenings and wellness exams. It's because they work. Early detection and diagnosis significantly improves your health and quality of life.

(2) Toxin Exposure
At any age, we should be concerned about our exposure to toxins. We share some frightening insights in this blog post. You may want to review it! We list specific information on the environment we are exposed to. Did you know toxins are fat soluble? It means they are stored in our fat and can remain in our bodies for years, or even decades. This causes changes in our bodies and greatly affects our aging process. Our body cannot keep up the fight without our help. Therefore, we need to avoid new exposure and actively work to remove the old toxins.
Not Just Great Advice: These 10 Tips will help maintain a healthy lifestyle, but they focus on the "staying" healthy concept. We want to help you "start" a healthy lifestyle. The post is very inspiring and nicely outlines each area of our life as a specific focus. Actively making healthy choices in the exercise, diet, social, and mental areas of our life will support wellness. At Flourish, we'd add a spiritual focus to bring wellness into the fullness of life as God intends it: wholeness. Learn more about our team approach to your health and wholeness. Vital Trio: Top 3 Supplements for Health and Wellness

3/11/2024

vegetables and rice at dining table
March is National Nutrition Month. It's a perfect time to dive into the world of Functional Medicine and explore how it can supercharge your health, especially through targeted supplementation of vitamin B12, iron, and vitamin D. First, let's talk about why so many people have deficiencies in these key nutrients.

Vitamin B12 is mainly found in animal products, so if you're a vegetarian or vegan, you might not be getting enough. Plus, as we age, our bodies can have a harder time absorbing B12 from food, leading to deficiency. Vitamin B12 is essential for nerve function, red blood cell production, and DNA synthesis. Deficiency in vitamin B12 can lead to fatigue, weakness, and neurological problems.

Iron deficiency is also common, especially among women with heavy periods or those who don't eat enough iron-rich foods like red meat, poultry, or beans. Iron absorption can also be affected by certain medications or digestive conditions. Iron is crucial for the formation of hemoglobin, which carries oxygen in the blood. Iron deficiency can lead to anemia, characterized by fatigue, weakness, and pale skin.
And let's not forget about vitamin D, often called the "sunshine vitamin." Many of us don't get enough sun exposure, especially during the winter months or if we live in areas with limited sunlight. This can lead to a deficiency in vitamin D, which is crucial for bone health, immune function, and mood regulation.

That is “why” you need to pay attention to the nutritional gaps in your food consumption, but let’s look at “what” you can do about it and “how” you can become healthier.

Functional Medicine takes a holistic approach to health, focusing on finding the root causes of health issues rather than just treating symptoms. This approach considers factors like genetics, environment, and lifestyle, which can all impact our nutrient levels.

How to increase your intake of vitamin B12, iron, and vitamin D // Add the following foods to your diet:

Vitamin B12: Found primarily in animal products, so include more of these in your diet if you're looking to increase your B12 intake:
  • Fish (salmon, trout, tuna) choose fresh or frozen wild-caught varieties
  • Meat (beef, lamb, liver)
  • Poultry (chicken, turkey)
  • Dairy products (milk, cheese, yogurt)
  • Eggs
Vitamin D: While it's challenging to get enough vitamin D from food alone, you can include these sources in your diet to boost your intake:
  • Fatty fish (salmon, mackerel, sardines)
  • Egg yolks
And getting daily sunlight exposure can help your body produce vitamin D naturally.
Iron: Iron is found in both animal and plant-based foods, but the type of iron (heme vs. non-heme) and its absorption rate differ. To increase your iron intake, include these foods in your diet:
  • Heme iron (more easily absorbed):
  • Beef, lamb, pork
  • Poultry (chicken, turkey)
  • Fish (salmon, tuna)
  • Non-heme iron (found in plant-based foods):
  • Beans and lentils
  • Tofu and tempeh
  • Spinach and other leafy greens
  • Quinoa
So, this National Nutrition Month, consider incorporating Functional Medicine and a balanced diet rich in whole foods into your health routine. At Flourish we use advanced testing to assess your nutrient status and offer recommendations to optimize your health through targeted supplementation. Professional grade supplements are available at the clinic, or you may order them from our online store.

Nurturing Heart Health: A Holistic Approach

2/9/2024

In the midst of our bustling lives and convenience-oriented diets, it's crucial to shed light on the importance of heart health. February is Heart Health Awareness Month, a timely opportunity to explore comprehensive strategies, including functional medicine, for cardiovascular well-being. It's essential not only to focus on managing cholesterol but also to examine the potential negative impacts of relying solely on medication.

Cholesterol 101:

  • High cholesterol does not always mean plaque build up
  • High cholesterol is not a result of eating too many eggs

High cholesterol could be caused by:
  • thyroid disfunction
  • inflammation
  • insulin dysregulation
  • parasites
woman making heart symbol with hands

Flourish's Approach to Addressing High Cholesterol:

  1. Look for signs and symptoms or run a variety of tests (labs, urine testing, etc) to address any of the above-mentioned causes.
  2. Check for plaque build-up in arteries with a CT Calcium score.
  3. Individualized recommendations will be made, and when necessary, a supplement called Arterosil will be used to reduce plaque build-up and repair artery lining.

Approaching heart health with lowering cholesterol as the goal, here are some considerations and healthy tips.

Understanding Functional Medicine:

Functional medicine, a holistic approach, seeks to address the root causes of health issues rather than merely treating symptoms. In the context of heart health, functional medicine takes into account various factors such as genetics, lifestyle, nutrition, and environmental influences to create a personalized plan for prevention and treatment.

Tips for Lowering Cholesterol:

  • Add Plants to Your Diet: Incorporate a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes into your daily meals. A diet rich in fiber, antioxidants, and phytochemicals, can effectively lower cholesterol levels.
  • Choose Healthy Fats: Choose heart-healthy fats found in avocados, nuts, seeds, and olive oil. These fats contain monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, positively impacting cholesterol levels. Other healthy fats and protein (eggs and red meat) are also essential for healthy cholesterol.
  • Limit Saturated and Trans Fats: Reduce intake of saturated and trans fats prevalent in processed and fried foods, which can raise LDL (bad) cholesterol levels and contribute to heart disease.
  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Include omega-3-rich foods like fatty fish, flaxseeds, chia seeds, and walnuts. These fatty acids offer heart-protective benefits.

Nutrition Tips for Heart Health:

  • Mindful Eating: Pay attention to portion sizes and practice mindful eating. Avoid overeating to promote healthy digestion.
  • Hydration Matters: Stay well-hydrated with water, electrolytes, and herbal teas, supporting optimal blood flow and circulation.
  • Moderation is Key: Enjoy a balanced diet with a variety of nutrient-dense foods. Moderation ensures essential nutrients without overloading on any specific component.
  • Limit Processed Foods: Processed foods often contain high levels of salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats. Select whole, unprocessed foods for the necessary nutrients.

Considering Medication's Negative Impact:

While medications can play a role in managing cholesterol, it's essential to acknowledge potential downsides. Medications may carry side effects, ranging from muscle pain to liver issues. Furthermore, relying solely on medication may lead to a false sense of security, potentially neglecting lifestyle changes that are crucial for long-term heart health.

At Flourish Medical + Wellness, we want you to thrive. That’s why we commemorate Heart Health Awareness Month and invite you to commit to prioritizing cardiovascular well-being. Functional Medicine, combined with lifestyle changes and nutritional adjustments, provides a holistic approach to heart health. Additionally, considering the potential negative impacts of relying solely on medication encourages a more balanced approach.

By making informed choices, we can work towards reducing the risk of heart disease and fostering a healthier, happier life. Remember, your heart deserves comprehensive care, so take steps today and flourish tomorrow. Contact us to discuss your health concerns.

At Flourish Medical + Wellness, we're all about making sure your body works at its best. We’re very aware of the research compiled over hundreds of years on how to keep people healthy and thriving. And we aren't fond of just extending life by taking meds every day to cover up symptoms. Our approach to medicine is all about helping you live long and stay healthy, as God intended. Here are ten ways to flourish as we partner with you in your wellness.

#1 Weight Loss

At FMW we believe that an effective weight loss program needs to be tailored to each individual’s lifestyle, health, age, and hormone levels. Therefore, we offer a variety of weight loss options in order to provide optimal results for each individual patient. With the goal of sustainable weight loss, the best approach is with a balanced and individualized strategy that considers factors like nutrition, exercise, mental well-being, and long-term habits. Restoring optimal hormone levels, testosterone, estradiol, and thyroid, is an integral part of a successful weight loss plan. This makes weight loss more attainable as well as sustainable! #2 IV Therapy

Intravenous (IV) nutrient therapy is a treatment which includes ingredients like essential vitamins, minerals, and amino acids proven over decades to play a significant role in our health and wellness. IV nutrient therapy is a safe, effective, and restorative therapy used to aid in treating several medical conditions and to boost your immune system. Our IV therapy is customized to meet each individual’s nutritional needs and is administered directly into the veins which provides significantly more benefit than oral and traditional supplements and medications. Check out the benefits and our nutrient menu>>

#3 Hormone Therapy

Hormone imbalance happens to both men and women and can have a significant impact on overall health and wellness. Hormones are one of the most important regulatory systems in the body. They function as messengers, interacting with specific target cells and organs to stimulate them into action. Hormone replacement therapy offers relief from many of the uncomfortable symptoms caused by a hormone imbalance. It can change your life! Read our patient’s stories>>

#4 Toxin Removal

God designed our bodies to be able to detoxify and heal in most circumstances, however, with continuous toxin exposure and a lack of nutrient dense foods to nourish our bodies and support healing, those natural detoxification pathways can become blocked or stagnant. When this occurs, toxins build up inside the body and can cause diffuse inflammation, leading to disease processes. At Flourish, we offer thorough toxin testing and detoxification options. Discover the symptoms of toxin overload>>

#5 Nutrition

We have all heard (and likely tried) dozens of diets to help us achieve our weight goals. Nutrition means so many different things to each of us. The focus that we offer is to rely on natural, healthy foods that nourish our bodies in order to help us function optimally. Small, sustainable changes are the focus as they are often longer lasting solutions and easier to implement. That’s why we offer a handy (free) Food Swap Guide to make healthy grocery shopping a little easier. At Flourish, we also partner with you through holistic Functional Medicine methods. Perhaps intermittent fasting is an approach you’ve been wanting to investigate. We’ve got a great resource for you.

#6 Supplementation

Our best resource for nutrition should be food but there are many situations where we need to look at supplementation to enhance the amount of vitamins and minerals our bodies are receiving. Most American diets are full of refined carbohydrates and sugars and are insufficient in essential vitamins and antioxidants. This can leave you deficient in many key nutrients that are needed to prevent chronic disease, and to run all body systems effectively. A balanced diet provides a source of vitamins and minerals, but taking dietary supplements with your healthy diet is beneficial in ensuring your body has enough of the nutrients it needs each day. Our (free) Holistic Home Remedies booklet is a great place to start! And our supplement recommendations are available for you to purchase online or at our clinic.

#7 Essential Oils

Essential oils are concentrated extracts derived from various plants and have been used for centuries for their potential health and wellness benefits. While individual experiences can vary, here are some commonly reported benefits of essential oils: aromatherapy, stress and anxiety reduction, improved sleep, pain relief, immune system support, headache relief, skin care, natural air freshener, home cleansers, mood enhancement, and repelling insects. With so many benefits and essential oils to choose from, it’s a great way to flourish! You can learn more and order from our own doTERRA essential oil shop>>

#8 Aesthetic Therapy

At Flourish, our definition of wellness encompasses all aspects of whole-person care, including physical, mental, and emotional wellness. Appearance can have a profound impact on wellness and how we interact with those around us. That is why we offer aesthetic treatments and have chosen to use the safest FDA-approved products to keep you feeling and looking your best. Botox® Cosmetic is the first FDA-approved treatment to improve frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults. The best results come from a well-trained medical provider who understands facial anatomy and musculature and customizes treatment to each individual patient. That's one of the reasons to schedule your Botox® Cosmetic treatments with us. Learn more>>

#9 Gut Health

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the relationship between gut health and overall well-being. We now understand that the gut plays a central role in our health, impacting everything from digestion to the immune system and even mental health. One approach that's gaining traction in the pursuit of optimal gut health is functional medicine. At FMW we also know the increasing exposure to toxins in our environment can worsen symptoms. That is why we offer a parasite protocol. Parasites weaken the body’s natural defense mechanisms which allows for easier invasion by parasites. They may be the underlying trigger for a variety of chronic health conditions, like autoimmune diseases and irritable bowel syndrome. We offer testing and treatment! Learn more about parasite protocol>>

#10 Emotional Health

To flourish, we must place a priority on our emotional wellness. Our medical practice seeks to bring wholeness through physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. That’s why we offer more in-depth testing. If you have been struggling with physical, mental, or emotional symptoms that have no known or identifiable cause, a trapped emotion may be the cause. Working with the Governing Meridian energy pathway and applied kinesiology, these trapped emotions can be identified and removed, leading to healing and improvement or resolution of the associated symptoms. Nourish from Within: Exploring the Benefits of IV Nutrition Therapy

10/19/2023

In a world that often feels like a whirlwind of fast-paced living, maintaining optimal health can be a challenge. Enter IV nutrition therapy, a method that has gained popularity for its ability to provide a direct infusion of essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrients into the bloodstream. While the concept of intravenous nourishment might seem like a medical marvel, it's becoming increasingly embraced by wellness enthusiasts and health-conscious individuals seeking a holistic approach to their well-being.

The Basics of IV Nutrition Therapy

IV nutrition therapy involves the administration of a customized blend of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other nutrients directly into the bloodstream. By bypassing the digestive system, this method ensures quick and efficient absorption, allowing the body to receive a higher concentration of nutrients than would be possible through oral supplements alone.
Now, let's delve into some of the remarkable benefits of IV nutrition therapy:

1) Rapid Nutrient Absorption

One of the standout advantages of IV nutrition therapy is the speed at which nutrients are absorbed by the body. Unlike oral supplements, which must first pass through the digestive system, IV infusion delivers nutrients directly into the bloodstream. This rapid absorption can be particularly beneficial for individuals with digestive issues or those who struggle to absorb nutrients effectively through the digestive tract.

2) Increased Energy Levels

Are you feeling fatigued and sluggish despite a seemingly healthy lifestyle? IV nutrition therapy might be the boost you need. The infusion of essential nutrients can enhance energy levels, helping you feel more revitalized and ready to tackle the demands of daily life. It's a popular choice for those facing chronic fatigue or recovering from illness.

3) Immune System Support

The immune system is our body's first line of defense against illness and infection. IV nutrition therapy can provide a powerful immune system boost by delivering high doses of vitamin C and other immune-supporting nutrients directly to the bloodstream. This proactive approach to immune health is especially attractive during cold and flu seasons or when facing increased stress.

4) Hydration and Detoxification

IV nutrition therapy often includes a hydration component, making it an effective way to address dehydration. Additionally, some formulations include nutrients that support the body's natural detoxification processes, helping to flush out toxins and promote overall wellness.

5) Enhanced Athletic Performance and Recovery

Athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and weekend warriors alike are turning to IV nutrition therapy to optimize their performance and recovery. The infusion of amino acids, vitamins, and minerals can aid in muscle repair, reduce inflammation, and speed up recovery after intense physical activity.

6) Stress Reduction and Mental Clarity

The demands of modern life can take a toll on mental well-being. IV nutrition therapy can help alleviate stress and promote mental clarity by supplying the brain with essential nutrients. This can be particularly beneficial for those experiencing high levels of stress or individuals seeking cognitive enhancement.
In the quest for optimal health and well-being, IV nutrition therapy emerges as a promising ally. By providing a direct and efficient pathway for nutrient delivery, this innovative approach offers a range of benefits, from increased energy levels and immune system support to enhanced athletic performance and mental clarity. At Flourish, we offer a variety of IV Therapy blends and invite you check out our menu and learn more about what we offer.  So, why not consider nourishing your body from within and unlocking the potential of IV nutrition therapy? Your health and vitality may thank you for it!

Healthy Kids, Brighter Futures: Tackling Childhood Obesity

9/1/2023

September is not just a month for the changing of seasons; it’s also a time to focus our attention on an alarming issue that affects the future health of our nation – childhood obesity. As National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month unfolds, let’s delve into the epidemic that has far-reaching consequences on the physical and mental well-being of our youngest generation. We want to shed light on the critical aspects of childhood obesity in America and the steps we can take to combat it.

Let’s look at factors that contribute to childhood obesity.

A big factor is unhealthy diets. The prevalence of processed foods high in sugars, unhealthy fats, and empty calories has skyrocketed. These foods are not only readily available but are often marketed aggressively to children. Processed foods also contain high amounts of chemicals that should not be consumed. Over time, these chemicals compound and create high toxin levels that disrupt endocrine function, nervous system function, and gastrointestinal health. Here are four more factors:
  1. Lack of Physical Activity: With the advent of technology, children are spending more time indoors glued to screens rather than engaging in physical activities. This sedentary lifestyle directly contributes to weight gain.
  2. Socioeconomic Disparities: Access to healthy foods and safe spaces for physical activities can be limited in lower-income neighborhoods, leading to higher rates of obesity among disadvantaged children.
  3. Parental Influence: Parents play a crucial role in shaping their children’s eating habits and activity levels. Busy lifestyles, lack of nutritional education, and limited cooking skills can all impact the choices parents make for their children.
  4. Advertising and Marketing: Food companies often market sugary and unhealthy foods to children, influencing their preferences from a young age.

How do we combat childhood obesity? National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month provides an opportunity for us to collectively address this issue.
  • Education: Raising awareness about the consequences of childhood obesity is paramount. Schools, communities, health care providers, and parents must all work together to ensure that children understand the importance of making healthy choices. While grocery shopping, parents can read nutrition labels to be sure they are choosing items without artificial sweeteners, such as fructose corn syrup.
  • Promoting Healthy Diets: Schools can implement healthier meal options, and parents can model balanced eating habits at home. The food industry can also play a role by reformulating products to reduce their sugar and calorie content, and most importantly their use of inflammatory oils and addicting chemicals.
  • Encouraging Physical Activity & Limiting Screen Time: Schools should prioritize physical education, recess, and after-school sports programs. Communities can create safe spaces for outdoor activities, and parents can lead by example by being active themselves. Limiting screen time to 30 minutes or less per day can positively impact the physical and mental health of our children.
  • Family Involvement: Parents and guardians can actively participate by engaging in meal planning, cooking nutritious meals, and spending quality time being active with their children, while avoiding processed foods and snacks.

The growing concern is that childhood obesity is no longer an isolated issue; it’s a full-fledged public health crisis. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), childhood obesity affects about 1 in 5 children and adolescents in the United States. The implications of this statistic are far more profound than mere numbers – it’s about the children who grapple with health complications, social stigma, and diminished quality of life.

National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month serves as a wake-up call, urging us to recognize the urgency of addressing childhood obesity in America. By understanding the contributing factors and taking proactive steps to promote healthier lifestyles, we can pave the way for a brighter, healthier future for the younger generation. This month is not just about awareness; it’s a reminder for each family to access lifestyle and food choices. Let’s each make a commitment to foster an environment where children can grow up healthy and flourish.

Next Level Testing Options to Better Understand Your Symptoms

6/15/2023

At Flourish Medical + Wellness, we take a holistic approach to medicine. Therefore, we offer more testing options than the typical blood work labs. What this means for you is that we can use clinical results to determine the cause of physical symptoms you may be experiencing. These deeper-dive options will help us see the full picture of your health and create a personalized treatment plan. The tests include organic acid testing, muscle testing, and toxin testing. Learn more about each of these offerings and how they can benefit your health.

Muscle Test

Muscle Testing, also known as Applied Kinesiology (AK) or Nutrition Response Testing (NRT) is done through testing the response of the body’s nervous system. NRT analyzes the flow of energy at different areas of the body to help us better understand how every organ is functioning as it relates to the state of health of an individual.

With NRT/AK the practitioner gently contacts different areas of the body with his/her hand. With the other hand, the practitioner will test the strength of the muscle of the patient’s arm. If the area/organ being tested is under stress, the nervous system responds by reducing energy to the arm muscle and the arm weakens. The weakening of the arm muscle signifies underlying stress or dysfunction. How can this possibly work? Consider what happens in the body with hypothermia. The extremities have the most damage because the body pulls all its energy to the core to protect the life-sustaining organs. The same concept applies when we make contact with a stressed organ/area, the body pulls energy to the organ being tested and the patient’s arm will weaken.

Organic Acid Test

Are you experiencing…
  • Slowed reaction time
  • Poor memory
  • Headache
  • Hyperactivity
  • Digestive problems
  • Abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloating
  • Hypo- or hyperglycemia
  • Unexplained weight gain or loss
  • Muscle weakness
  • Dermatitis
  • Immune deficiency
  • Anemia
  • Hearing, speech, or visual impairment
  • Mental and/or developmental delays
  • Fatigue and weakness
  • Depression and/or anxiety
  • Dizziness
  • Mood swings
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Nausea
  • Sleep problems
If you’re dealing with any of the listed symptoms or have been seen by a provider and told your symptoms are “normal” but you know what you’re experiencing is not right, Organic Acid Testing may be the next best step for you. It is a gut health urine test that identifies organic acid markers. These organic acid markers can provide great insights toward discovering underlying causes of chronic symptoms. An organic acid test completes the clinical “picture” of root causes and can guide us in developing the most individualized and effective interventions.

The Vibrant Organic Acids panel uses the most advanced mass spectrometry technology to assess 75 metabolic markers in urine. It includes 11 subpanels and provides accurate evaluation of intestinal microbial overgrowth, detoxification, mitochondrial markers, neurotransmitter metabolism, glutathione status, fatty acid metabolism, and inborn errors of metabolism. (We’ll share an explanation of each during your test results visit.)

Environmental Toxin Test

An additional method of understanding the state of your physical health is with urine toxin testing by Vibrant Wellness. This urine test provides an in-depth look at the toxic burden on your body. This test detects:
  • Mold
  • Phthalates
  • Parabens
  • Herbicides
  • Pesticides
If you’ve been told your bloodwork is normal, but you know something’s not right, it could be due to toxin exposure. The Vibrant Lab urine test will give you a clearer picture of your health and guide us toward providing the recommendations needed to bring optimal results.
At Flourish, we support you on your wellness journey by offering a holistic approach to health and healing. We address physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness as we know all are important to your ability to flourish. Call us to discuss our expanded testing options and to schedule a consultation.

The Consequences of Low Testosterone Affects Everyone as They Age

2/10/2023

Testosterone is a very important hormone for both men and women. Levels begin to decrease in women 10 to 20 years prior to menopause. In men, levels drop each year beginning in the 20’s - 30’s. There are significant consequences with regard to aging because of declining testosterone levels. There are testosterone receptors in most cell types in the body, making it a vital hormone for maintaining youthfulness and vitality.
Our goal is to optimize your levels of testosterone, not just replace some of what is lost. In men, we achieve levels betweens 1000 and 1200, which is the upper quartile (25%-ile) of the normal range. Most men in their thirties and above are in the 200 to 500 range. A normal range for women is not well established. After treating over a million women in this country, researchers at BioTe have found that women feel the best, with the least side effects, at levels from 150 to 250 or higher. This can vary as every person is unique and special. Blood levels will be checked 2-5 weeks after pellet placement to ensure that the optimal range is achieved. If levels are below optimal, we will provide a ‘boost’ with your office visit follow up at no extra charge.

When your testosterone is optimized, you will experience the following:

  • Increased Energy
  • Increased Mental Focus and Clarity
  • More Restful Sleep
  • Increased Libido and Sexual Response
  • Less Joint Pain
  • Improved Mood/Less Anxiety
  • Higher Metabolic Rate
  • Improved Muscle Tone, Mass, & Strength
In addition, testosterone prevents and treats osteoporosis, protects the heart, lowers blood sugar, and decreases the risk of Alzheimer's Disease and breast cancers. Learn more about the Bioidential Hormone Replacement Treatments we offer at Flourish. Contact us to make a consultation.

The Effects of Toxin and Pollutant Exposure

5/6/2022

The exposure to pollutants is unavoidable. When we breath, it's in the air. What we eat and drink and even the pans we use to prepare a meal are all contaminated by some form of toxic chemicals. And here's a wake-up call: 70,000 new synthetic chemicals were introduced into our environment during the twentieth century and 80% of these new chemicals have never been screened for their effects on human health.

Pollutant overload is harmful to three of our most critical physiological systems - immune system, nervous system, and endocrine system. This exposure causes chronic illnesses, autoimmune disease, cancer, thyroid disorders, and hormone imbalance, to name a few. If you wonder why you experience fatigue, migraine headaches, aches, and moodiness - you could be over exposed to toxins. We want to make you aware and uncover some of the sources of toxic chemicals in your life. First, let's uncover the contaminants in food, water, and air.
kitchen sink water testing

Food Contamination

  • Over 1billion tons of pesticides are used in the US every year:
    • These find their way into our food and water sources
    • EPA (environmental protection agency) survey shows that ALL commercially grown foods in America have pesticides in them
  • Animals crowded into feedlots are given antibiotics and treated with pesticides:
    • These animals are given commercially produced foods that are treated with insecticides and herbicides
    • These toxins accumulate in the animal's bodily tissues and are passed on to consumers
  • Food preparation, storage, and transportation also contribute to toxin exposure
  • Food additives include preservatives, flavorings, colorings and dyes
  • Bleaching of foods like French fries, is done with sulfuric acid and chlorine
  • Fungicides and fumigants are sprayed directly onto perishables to delay spoiling and to protect them from insects
  • Phthalates are synthetic chemicals that make plastic flexible. These toxins leach out of the plastic and contaminates food and drinks

Water Pollution

  • Chlorinated city water contains 100-10,000 times as many synthetic compounds as natural spring water
  • We absorb more of these pollutants from bathing than drinking
  • Trihalomethane is a by-product from the chlorination process and is toxic to humans
  • Arsenic, mercury, and PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) are also found in our drinking water
  • Fluoride is found in our drinking water and has been shown to destroy thyroid gland tissues

Air Pollution

  • Adults inhale about three metric tons of air each year (4.3 liters per minute), so minute amounts of pollutants in the atmosphere can accumulate in our bodies over time
  • The increase of industrialization during the twentieth century significantly increased toxic emissions
  • Due to trade winds, pesticides sprayed to control grasshoppers in Africa have been detected 5 days later in Florida
It helps to understand that toxins are fat soluble, meaning they are stored in our fat. This allows them to remain in our bodies for many years or decades. So, with continued daily exposure to even small amounts, the total amount of toxins in our bodies gradually increases. Toxins are also stored in the fatty tissues of animals and therefore are in the animal products we consume. Now, let's uncover the long-term effects of chemical exposure.

PCBs (Polychlorinated Biphenyls)

  • Widely used as lubricants, hydraulic fluids, inks, paints, varnishes, adhesives, pesticides to make wood and rubber
  • Due to harmful effects on our thyroid and other bodily functions, PCBs were banned in 1977, however they have remained in our soil and water sources and are still found in the fat of animals we consume (fish, meat, and dairy products)

Dioxins

  • Formed during the production of chlorine containing chemicals such as pesticides, plastics, paper bleaching, and diesel engine exhaust
  • These are also distributed throughout our air, water, soil, sediment, food and animals
  • Dioxins are the most hazardous chemical pollutants and have been linked to Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and soft tissue cancers
  • Dioxins disrupt thyroid, testosterone, and estrogen functions
  • Dioxins lower sperm count and suppress immune function

DDT (Dichloro Diphenyl Trichloroethane)

  • Very potent insecticide
  • Was banned in America in 1972 after years of research that showed contamination of the entire world's food supply, high levels in fatty tissues of animals and humans, genetic
  • damage, cancer, and extinction of entire species
  • Despite the ban, America produced over 96 tons of DT for export overseas in 1991 and DT is still widely used to control mosquitoes in third-world countries
  • DT metabolites have a half-life of 57 years, meaning it takes 57 years for the body to completely rid itself of these toxins
  • DT blocks testosterone receptors and interferes with estrogen hormones
  • Every man, woman, and child still have detectable levels of DT

Phthalates (Group of synthetic chemicals)

  • Annual worldwide production of phthalates is estimated to be about one billion pounds per year
  • Used to make plastics flexible
  • Also found in hairspray, dyes, cosmetics, adhesives, oily perfumes, and lubricants
  • These chemicals leach into food and drinks that are contained in plastics
  • Phthalates interfere with thyroid hormone metabolism and adversely affect testosterone function
If we consider our exposure to heavy metals, we can see the effects on the enzymes that are crucial to produce our mitochondria. Mitochondria is an organelle found in large numbers in most cells, in which the biochemical processes of respiration and energy production occur. Our body's energy is particularly sensitive to the effects of heavy metals. And finally, we'll explore the sources and results of exposure to heavy metal toxins.

Heavy Metals: Lead

  • Found in paints, motor vehicle exhaust aerosolizes lead, batteries, vinyl, stained glass, bullets, and many imported products
  • Common source of lead poisoning is from old homes with lead water pipes
  • Found in calcium supplements made from bone meal and oyster shells and cigarette smoke
  • Lead is stored in our bones and teeth and has a half-life for elimination of 13 years
  • Has been linked to learning and reading disabilities, reduced memory, irritability, attention deficit disorder, hyperactivity, anemia, kidney damage, social and behavioral issues

Arsenic

  • Found in our food, water, soil, and air
  • It is the by-product of the smelting process for metal ores such as copper, lead, gold, zinc, cobalt, and nickel
  • The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry estimates the average American's dietary intake of arsenic is between 11-14 micrograms per day - this is from meat, fish, and poultry
  • Grapes and tobacco are frequently sprayed with arsenic-containing pesticides which also exposes humans via tobacco products and wine
  • Arsenic accumulates in the hair, nails, skin, bone, GI tract, and thyroid gland
  • Arsenic has also been found in our drinking water at high rates. These levels of chronic exposure resulted in increased risk of cancer.
  • The acceptable standard was lowered from 50 ppb to 01 ppb by the World Health Organization, but has yet to be implemented across the US

Mercury

  • Mercury ranks highly among the most poisonous threats to animal life
  • It is found in our air, food, and water
  • Annual worldwide emissions of mercury are estimated to be around 2,200 metric tons
  • Mercury in the form of thimerosal has been used as a preservative in vaccinations for decades
  • Mercury is particularly toxic to the nervous system, especially the developing brain
  • Link between Alzheimer's disease and mercury exposure
We paint a dark picture, but now that you are aware of the sources of toxicity, here are steps you can take to lessen your exposure.

What You Can Do

  1. Choose chemical-free cleansers such as dōTERRA® cleaning products, dish soap, laundry detergent, etc.
  2. Live fragrance-free
  3. Purchase organic foods and ingredients (download our Easy Swap Food Guide)
